School Teachers and Zoo-phonics© teaming for successful literacy outcomes

With the implementation of the National Curriculum and subsequent changes to the Australian educational philosophy, primary school teachers are asked to extend their students’ Language, Literature and Literacy skills—spelling, reading, writing and comprehension skills. The intention of implementing this curriculum is to unify Australian education standards, however implementing such a change does not come without its problems.

For some, the evolution from the old to the new is an easy process.  For others, a new curriculum represents new content, up-dated lesson plans, additional time for research, planning and resource preparation, educating or re-education themselves in unfamiliar content may not be quite so easy.

Working in partnership with Zoo-phonics, teachers can easily extend Language, Literature and Literacy skills; achieving outcomes without the extra work a new, innovative curriculum brings.

What is Zoo-phonics?  Zoo-phonics is a comprehensive, play-based teaching program to develop children’s Literacy, Language and Literature.

All children become confident, fluent and enthusiastic spellers and readers easily using the Zoo-phonics method.  Our method uses a whole brain approach—“phono” (hearing), “oral” (speaking), “visual” (seeing), “kinaesthetic” (moving), and “tactile” (touching). Even young children can begin the spelling, reading and writing process.
Teachers have access to comprehensive, age-appropriate teaching materials in lesson plan format which makes learning to spell, read, and write fun for learning as well as for teaching.

Zoo-phonics, not confined to only Literacy, Language and Literature, includes activities for teaching basic mathematical concepts through to real-life mathematical problem-solving. Science, social communication, sensory experience, self image, valuing, health and grooming, and other key learning areas have not been forgotten.  Phonemic awareness is alive in every activity.

Zoo-phonics supports Literacy Support Teachers.  Extra activities are available for the children diagnosed with specific learning disabilities, ESL children as well as those who need those extra challenges. Children in one class can learn to read, write and spell through the Zoo-phonics methodology because it is concrete, uses pictorial mnemonics, and is kinaesthetic and multi-sensory.

Children and teachers confidently achieve outcomes and parents gain accomplished children by working with Zoo-phonics.

Alphabetics, Part II: Phonics Instruction

"Teaching children to manipulate phonemes using letters produced bigger effects than teaching without letters"

- National Reading Panel, Alphabetics, Part II: Phonics Instruction, Reports to Sub-Groups.
